only. The Sexton
is the responsible person through whom all public contacts are to
be made.

1) authorization of the owner
of the cemetery lot; or 2) authorization of the nearest relative
of the deceased.
Memorial Garden
The Memorial Garden is situated in the back of the Cemetery and
was added in the summer of 2000 on approval of the Bardstown City
Council consisting of council members: Ann Rosalie Ballard, Charles
J. Brauch, Francis Lydian, Evelyn Oakley, Bill Sheckles, and Frank
B. Wilson, and serving under Mayor William G. Brown.
- No lot owner may sell his/her lot or any portion thereof privately
without the authorization of the Sexton. When feasible and formally
approved, the City will repurchase any lot or portion thereof
at half of the current purchase price.
- The Cemetery will not recognize transfers of ownership unless
duly notified and approved by the City Council.
- The owner of each lot may erect suitable stones or monuments
thereon as prescribed.
- Any tree or shrub situated on any lot, that becomes detrimental
to the adjacent lots or avenues, may be removed at the sole discretion
of the Bardstown Cemetery.
- The owner of each lot may place and keep in repair permanent
land marks of the boundaries of their respective lots (must be
kept level with top of ground to ensure ease of mowing grass)
and keep same clean, and all said improvements of lots shall be
subject to the supervision and control of the Sexton. No stone
or brick walls or wooden fences may be erected as enclosures of
lots.
- Any decorations placed on a lot which do not conform to the
Cemetery's policies will be removed.
Flower Regulation
- Natural flowers will be permitted at any time and will be removed
when wilted. The pots or baskets containing such plants should
be placed in close proximity to the monument.
- Bark mulches/rocks are not allowed because they may result in
injury to cemetery workers or visitors.
- Articles made of concrete, glass, or benches, boxes, etc., are
not permitted on lots due to safety concerns.
- The Cemetery disclaims all responsibility for loss or damage
from causes beyond its reasonable control, such as those caused
from thieves, vandals, explosions, or accidents.
Notices
- NO ARTICLES ALLOWED THAT WOULD HINDER SAFETY, MAINTENANCE OR
MOWING.
- ALL VASES OR OTHER ARRANGEMENTS THAT ARE SECURED TO THE MONUMENT
ARE CONSIDERED ACCEPTABLE.
Rules of Conduct
- Since the Cemetery has an inherent sacred nature, it is requested
that visitors be decently clothed, including shoes and shirts,
and that they refrain from parties, picnicking and sporting activities
of any kind on the grounds.
- A speed limit of 15 miles per hour within the grounds of the
Cemetery must be observed to insure the safety of visitors and
workman.
- All pets shall be kept on leashes.
- Motorcycles are not permitted in the cemetery unless they are
a part of a funeral procession.
Please note that the above rules and regulations do not constitute
all the rules and regulations of the Bardstown Cemetery, but only
those most frequently requested by owners and visitors.
