The Parks and Recreation department is responsible for the development,
coordination and promotion of the recreational programs. It coordinates
activities of volunteer recreational services for all sports programs.
It also studies local conditions and develops immediate and long-range
plans to meet recreational needs of all age groups. The department
has five full-time employees and about fourteen seasonal part-time
employees.

YOGA CLASSES: Donna
Paschal is a certified yoga instructor. Yoga classes will follow
the standard format of a group fitness class: warm-up, work, and
cool down. Donna will teach an active, flowing style of yoga that,
with modifications and principles of alignment, allows participants
to stay safe and feel challenged yet successful. Yoga is for every
body. If you can breathe, you can do yoga.

TRIM, SHAPE, & TONE:
Instructor George Pis mixes cardio and strength training to give
a complete workout. Dumb bells, bands, & balls are used diversely
to energize the muscles of the body. George will guide the class
through stretching, light cardio, and weight lifting. This class
is for people of all shapes and sizes.
Evenings: Monday & Thursday: 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Mornings: Saturday 8:45 - 9:45a.m.
City Pool Activities
The Bardstown/Nelson County Parks & Recreation Department
maintains one municipal Olympic size pool facility. Includes diving
pool, wading pool, and bathhouse/restrooms. The pool opens the beginning
of June and remains open daily through Mid-August. Summer activities
include swim lessons, swim team, Family Swim, pool rental, and waterobics
classes. Registrations for the summer programs begin in May. Season
Passes are available through the Recreation Department office and
all registrations are at the office.

Swimming Lessons

Bardstown Community Park
The park is located at the end of East Halstead Avenue. This park
has a pavilion (can be reserved by calling recreation office 348-9281),
sand volleyball court, basketball goal, horseshoe pits, playground
equipment, picnic tables, grills and walking/biking trails on adjacent
wooded area on approximately 20 acres of land. It is available for
public use daily from dawn till dusk. In conjunction with the Stephen
Foster Music Club, the Bardstown Recreation Department will be offering
free concerts in the park on Friday evenings in the summer beginning
Memorial Weekend through Labor Day weekend. Click

Jones Avenue Park & Don Harned Little League Field
This 5 acre facility is located at the corner of West Broadway
and Jones Avenue near the city pool. This park consists of two lighted
tennis courts and a sand volleyball court that are available until
11:00 p.m. Enjoy lunch while watching your children play on the
modern playground equipment. A picnic area and lighted pavilion
with tables (can be reserved by calling recreation office 348-9281),
benches & grills are available for public use. The Don Harned
field includes one large lighted baseball/softball field with storage/scorer's
building, concession stand/restrooms, and a gravel walking track.

Woodson/Rogers Park
Located on South 4th Street it is approximately .25 acre. It consists
of two basketball goals and up-to-date playground equipment geared
for children under 12 years of age. It is open from dawn till dusk.

Sportsman Club Park
It is approximately 7.35 acres and is located 1/2 mile south of
Bardstown on KY49. Enjoy a game of ball on the baseball/softball

Dean Watts Park
This 35 acre complex is located off of Spencer Mattingly Lane about
three miles East of KY245 By-pass. This sports complex includes
14 youth soccer fields, 4 youth football fields, 6 Baseball/Softball
Fields, a paved walking path, playground equipment, 3 concession
stands pavilions with restrooms and picnic tables. Click

Gym Rental
The Recreation Department gym is available for rental based on
availability. The cost is $30.00 per hour. Click

Open Gym
The Recreation Department gym is open to the public Monday - Friday
from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. FREE OF CHARGE. Walkers are welcome.
