Welcome to the Bardstown wastewater information page.
Water quality is a key component to the environmental and public health of our community. The proper collection and treatment of wastewater is essential for meeting high water-quality standards. The term “wastewater” refers to water that leaves any residential, commercial or industrial establishment after being used. Wastewater is collected in sanitary sewers and treated at one of the two wastewater treatment plants operated by the City of Bardstown. After treatment, the wastewater is discharged into the Beech Fork River.
Over the past few years, the City of Bardstown has had problems with some parts of our sanitary sewer system. In particular, we have experienced sewer manhole overflows during wet weather. These incidents are not only bad for the environment, but they put the City out of compliance with the Clean Water Act. On this website we will explain how the sanitary sewer system works, what has caused our problems with sewer system overflows and what we are doing to correct those problems and ensure that they don’t happen again in the future. The City of Bardstown is committed to making the necessary improvements to eliminate sewer overflows from our system and protect the public from the pollution that results from sewer system overflows.
