Remediation
The following are steps that the City of Bardstown has taken to fix SSO’s and prevent their occurrence in the future:
- Replaced the Eastland Hill Pump Station - Cost - $134,061.
- Replaced Pottershop Road Pump Station – Cost - $245,363.
- Repaired Barton Road Pump Station – Cost - $5,500.
- Contracted for the design of a parallel main sewer line along Town Creek. – Cost $160,400.
- Contracted for the construction the Town Creek Sewer line. 14,000 linear feet of gravity sewer varying in size from eight to thirty-six inch piping, and associated manholes and connections. Cost $3.87 million dollars. This project is scheduled to be completed late summer, 2009.
- Purchased Sewer Line Inspection Equipment (video) for $31,500, and budgeted an additional $21,500 of related equipment.
- Adopted a Uniform Spill-By Pass Reporting Form to be used to document spills/overflows with appropriate agencies. The City has also started using the e-Notification of the Kentucky Department of Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet. All SSO information is now logged tracked in coordination with the KDEP.
- Contracted with Strand Associates for a Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Survey. This is an inspection and evaluation of approximately 1,500 manholes; and smoke testing the collection system, to determine points of Inflow and Infiltration of non-wastewater into the sanitary sewer system. Also included in this project is a final report on the condition of the system to prioritize future repairs and construction efforts. Final Report submitted to the Division of Water October 29, 2007. Cost - $195,000.
- Contracted with American Process Group, Inc. for dredging, dewatering and disposal of sludge at the Town Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. The work included American Process Group removing the material from the lagoons using an auger dredge. It was screened to remove debris, hair, and plastics prior to dewatering, which was achieved using horizontal decanter centrifuges. The transportation of the dewatered cake was subcontracted to a local company, American Process Group dealt directly with the landfill for disposal. –Completed– Cost - $349,563.60
