Lower Beech Fork Treatment Plant

Bardstown's Wastewater Treatment Plants, also known as Sewer Plants,
remove organic pollutants from domestic and industrial liquid waste
so that it is safe to return to the environment. Liquid waste travels
through a 75 mile collection system with 20 pump stations to the
plants. There it is treated and returned to natural waterways for
reuse. Town Creek Treatment Plant was originally built in 1960 and
expanded in 1980 to treat 3 million gallons per Day. Lower Beech
Fork, designed to treat 4 million gallons per day, was built and
started operation in 2002.
Bardstown Wastewater Treatment department employs 8 full time employees.
Both plants are operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Operators
make sure plant equipment and processes are working properly based
on readings interpreted from the meters, gauges and chemical and
biological laboratory analysis of sample waste water and sludge.
